The wine was produced from three distinct parcels of fruit, two of the blocks were planted in 71, with the final in 2002. Each block has a unique soil profile, with the blending of individual sites showing a cross section of the Estate vineyards.
The wine was de-stemmed to whole berries before crushing and fermentation, there was a minimum of 17 days on skins and predominately free run juice was pressed to a high proportion of new French oak for close to 18 months in barrel.
A deep glossy dark red in colour with a nose that shows the trapping of new French oak with a vanillin and shaved coconut influence to generous blackberry fruit. The palate gives an initial suppleness of spice laden black fruits, however there is savoury structure that builds in layers. Kirsh, black cherry and fresh coffee grinds have impact before immense length of blackberry etched with earth to finish.
A monumental wine.
