Star Lane have a minimalist and uncompromising approach to winemaking, there is a consistent thread of complexity and quality across the range with the 2016 Merlot a reminder of what can be done with the variety in Australia.
The nose enjoys a richness of plum fruit with faint notes of graphite and dark chocolate.
There is a continuation of plum on the palate with a slow rise of drying, finely textured but earthen tannin providing depth and mouth feel. A line of bitter dark chocolate gives another dimension to sullen dark fruits with just enough oak derived richness to provide contrast to finish.
Drinking well now, but will evolve significantly in years to come.
